Ballenas Secondary School

Introduction

The Ballenas Web site represents the major project culminating the two year diploma in Media Studies at Malaspina University-College. I was co-project leader and programmer in a team of four responsible for the design and production of the Ballenas Web site.

Overview

With the exception of Ballenas logo, the client gave our team 'carte blanche' with regards to in the user interface design, information architecture and branding. Our team used this authority to create a Web site that will serve as a community hub for school district 69 and the Parksville region.

Methods Used

Our group produced a Content Management System (CMS) that employs a PHP and mySQL framework that allowed different facets of the Web site to be updated through a Web based Graphics User Interface (GUI). This CMS Web application grants different levels of content access using a login system.

Results

The Staff at Ballenas Secondary School are extremely grateful for the effort our group put into their new Web site. For the first time they now have the ability to manage the content of their site themselves. A key success to this project is their RSS feed (Words of the Whalers), it allows visitors to subscribe and receive regular updates on events and activities at Ballenas.
